The faculty of voluntarily bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character, and will. No one is composed [master of himself] if he have it not. An education which should improve this faculty would be the education par excellence. But it is easier to define this ideal than to give practical directions for bringing it about. William James
The cultivation starts with conation. The capacity to direct our mind with intention towards what is imortant to us. We follow this with developing long voluntary attention which leads us to the next layer of insight, which is metacognition. The ability to know what needs to be known, and also step back and observe our own mind, its patterns. This progression naturally brings about the emotional balance. The wellbeing comes from inside.
We have guided expeditions on all 7 continents and I sat on my cushion for many many hours. Bring your idea — a ridge you read about, a peak your grandparents mentioned, a valley no one visits. Or you want to turn your mind into an ally and need some direction to get started. We'll build it together.
